Goat Grow Kit Directions
Materials Needed:
-
Goat Grow Box: A mono-tub with grain spawn and substrate. (included in kit)
-
Cleaning supplies: 70% isopropyl alcohol, spray bottle, gloves, paper towels.
-
Spores or Mushroom Culture: Acquire a spore syringe or a mushroom culture.
-
Misting Bottle: For maintaining humidity.
-
Micropore Tape: To create a filtered air exchange. (included in kit)
-
Tub Liner: Prevents side-pinning and makes for easier cleanup. (included in kit)
-
Spoon: Clean spoon for mixing.
Procedure:
Step 1: Inoculate with Spores or Culture (Skip if Grain Spawn is colonized)
-
Prepare Inoculation Area:
-
-
-
-
Create a clean workspace by wiping down surfaces you'll be working on with a disinfectant.
-
-
-
-
Inoculate Bag:
-
-
-
Inoculate each spawn bag with spores or a mushroom culture using a heat-sterilized needle or syringe. (Flame or induction heat to 185F)
-
-
-
-
Incubate Bag:
-
-
-
Place inoculated bag in a warm (75-78F), dark environment for the mycelium to colonize the substrate.
-
-
-
-
Break and Shake Bag:
-
Once the mycelium has sufficiently colonized the grains but before it forms a solid mass, gently break apart the mycelial clumps by kneading, squeezing, or massaging the bag with clean hands.
-
-
Be careful not to damage the bag or create any holes that may introduce contaminants.
-
Step 2: Prepare the Mono-Tub , Grain Spawn and Substrate
-
Prepare Tub and Liner:
-
Clean the plastic tub, lid, and liner with 70% isopropyl alcohol to disinfect.
-
Place liner in bottom of tub.
-
-
Prepare Grain Spawn
-
-
Clean the grain spawn bag with 70% isopropyl alcohol to disinfect.
-
-
-
Once the mycelium has completely colonized the grain , gently break apart the mycelial clumps by kneading, squeezing, or massaging the bag with clean hands.
-
-
Prepare Substrate:
-
-
Clean the mixing spoon with 70% isopropyl alcohol to disinfect.
-
-
-
Using a disinfected spoon mix the colonized grain spawn with substrate bag
-
Add casing layer and spread to cover the grain and substrate mixture using only the tip of the spoon. Do Not mix casing layer into rest of mixture.
-
Step 3: Colonize Substrate
-
Place inoculated tub in a warm (75-78F), dark environment for the mycelium to colonize the substrate.
-
Monitor growth from outside tub.
-
Allow the tub to incubate in the dark until the mycelium has fully colonized the substrate.
Step 4: Initiate Fruiting Conditions
-
Introduce Light and Fresh Air:
-
Place the tub in a well-lit area with indirect light.
-
Fan the tub once a day to simulate fresh air exchange (about 15-30 seconds).
-
-
Maintain Humidity:
-
Mist the inside of the tub regularly to maintain high humidity levels.
-
Step 5: Harvest and Maintain
-
Harvest Mushrooms:
-
Harvest mushrooms when they reach maturity.
-
-
Continue Fruiting:
-
Continue to mist and maintain fruiting conditions until the harvest is complete.
-
Step 6: Drying Fruit
-
Place harvested fruit in dry, dark space until dry with plenty of air flow (the texture of a cracker)
-
Once dry, use your fingers or a small brush to clean substrate from fruit (optional)
Step 7: Clean and Repeat
-
Clean Equipment:
-
Clean and disinfect all equipment for future use.
-
-
Repeat Process:
-
Repeat the process with new substrate and spores or culture for continuous mushroom cultivation.
-
Notes:
-
Follow sterile techniques throughout the process to minimize the risk of contamination.
-
Consult additional resources and guides for more detailed information on mushroom cultivation techniques.
